San Sebastian Airport (EAS) to San Sebastian Centre

If you’re planning to visit San Sebastian by plane, the most comfortable airport to travel to is without a doubt San Sebastian Airport (EAS).

The airport is located just 20 km (25 minutes) from the centre of San Sebastian. 

However, the airport is tiny and there aren’t many flights. 

Most of the arrivals are national from Madrid and Barcelona, meaning you’ll probably have to connect at one of those airports.

However, more and more destinations are being added each year as the Basque Country becomes a more popular travel destination. 

If you’re lucky and able to fly into San Sebastian Airport whilst visiting San Sebastian, below we run through the best options to get from the airport to the city centre.  

If you’re not so lucky and are not able to get to San Sebastian by EAS Airport, don’t worry, there are still other options. 

Visiting the city via. Bilbao Airport or Biarritz Airport is easier with a wider variety of international flights and good connections to San Sebastian.  

San Sebastian Airport (EAS) to San Sebastian centre by bus

The easiest and cheapest way to get from San Sebastian Airport to the centre of the city is by bus. 

The bus stop is right outside the terminal (the airport is tiny, so you can’t miss it!).

You’ll need to take the E21 bus

There’s at least one every hour, with more frequent services during key hours and from Monday – Friday. You can view the full timetable here (in Spanish). 

The journey takes anything between 35 minutes to 50 minutes depending what time you take the bus.

NOTE: The route is circular, so the bus will first stop in Hondarribia before turning around to head back to San Sebastian.

Price: A one way ticket will cost €2.75

Departures: Bus every 45 mins to 60 mins depending on the time you arrive. Check the full timetable here

The bus will drop you off in the centre of San Sebastian at Plaza Gipuzkoa

This is also the same place to take the bus if you want to make the return journey from San Sebastian centre to the airport.

San Sebastian Airport to San Sebastian centre by taxi

Whilst the bus is the cheapest way to get from San Sebastian Airport to San Sebastian, you might not want to wait around.

In that case, the easiest way to get to the city centre is by taxi. 

There will be taxis waiting outside the main arrivals terminal where you can quickly and easily jump in a cab.There’s no need to pre-book. 

Price: The taxi should cost between €40 – €60 depending on where your hotel is in Donostia.  

The journey will take around 25 minutes.

San Sebastian Airport to San Sebastian by car

If you’re planning to hire a for your stay, then hiring a car from San Sebastian Airport to make your way to San Sebastian makes sense.

Most of the major car hire companies (Sixt, Hertz, Europcar etc.) offer car rentals from San Sebastian Airport and have pick up locations on site. 

Once you have your hire car, you can take the AP-8 motorway directly to San Sebastian. The AP-8 is a toll road which will cost €2.12. 

The journey will take 25 minutes. 

If you want to avoid the toll, take the route via. the GI-636 instead, the route is only a couple of minutes extra, but there can occasionally be traffic at busy times (as most locals will use this route to avoid the tolls).
